and I thought my weekend was rough....

One of my friends, Jessica, is having to have rabies shots, after a too playful encounter with a stray dog. Ouch.
My weekend was okay, although I seem to be completely preoccupied by the new company and everything that needs to be done. It is a bit overwhelming at times. I thought I was going to make major progress this weekend, and made some, but not enough. I had taken in an external drive to run backups on, and couldn't figure out why it kept failing. As it turns out, the drive is FAT32, which has a 4 gigabyte file size limit. Silly me. I definitely feel sheepish.
G and I went to see a play about Don Juan Tenario (Don Juan as a vamp...) which was decent, but long winded. We didn't stick around for the conclusion, having had enough in the opening 90 minutes-I was still fighting my three day headache, and wasn't thrilled with the 6 feet away yelling...very small theatre. However, that did make me want to get out more and see some more plays.
So...today, I'm going to survive work here, head to Fry's and buy a new external drive that is NTFS formatted, walk the dogs, eat dinner as G's cooking, then swing by the new company and hook that up...Then, late at night when all the recruiters are in bed, I'll shut down Domino and back every mother-f'in thing up, start Domino back up, and life will be good, know that I have accomplished SOMETHING productive.
Exciting, huh? In lighter news, I was convinced we were going to have problems about Micah's Halloween costume. He wanted to be Michael Myers from Halloween the movie, which I really don't think is appropriate. However, he solved it himself, by saying he wanted to make his costume, with claws, etc. Plus, he wants to use the shield that Jerry gave him for his birthday, and I got him a Ringwraith costume to go with the rest, and I'm thinking that he can wear the dinosaur headress/helmet he made at art camp this summer...I'm so proud of him for coming up with his own idea.

Weekend in the country!

On Friday, G and I picked up Micah. It is actually closer to get to Glen Rose than our house from there. We went to Glen Rose Friday night, went to Loco Coyote for dinner. It's an awesome place about ten miles outside of Glen Rose, middle of absolute nowhere, that is basically a shack. But, the food is so good that there is almost always a wait of an hour or more! We actually held our rehearsal dinner there, four years ago.

We then went to G's uncle's property and stayed in the cabin there. As i was getting the keys out from a concrete basin in back that shelters the well, i almost grabbed a scorpion! Slept restlessly that night-there was a coyote sniffling around the area that kept waking me up.

Got up early on Saturday and hiked down to the Brazos and watched the steam/mist rise from the surface. Later that day, we did more hiking, when Micah found a complete spinal column from a small animal (raccoon or opossum), along with a wealth of other bones. Darrell, who owns the land jointly with G's uncle, showed us a sinkhole that is possibly a cave.

We did a bit of fishing later too...I got lucky and caught the only one of the day-a 4 or 5 pound bass. So fun! Granted, I felt like an urban rookie when one of the people we were with pulled out a pair of pliers to get the hook out much easier than I could have.

Saturday night, I took G out to meet a few friends at Ferrari's in Addison. It was beyond good! I had a Chilean sea bass with crab over the top that was just heaven. We then went back to Kris and Jerry's and tried Absinthe! I want to try that again, though, perhaps with a different brand. At least this one didn't hit me strongly.

Yesterday was pretty laid back. Watched the Cowboy game, did a little work, and did another dinner with Ginger's fam. Passed out EARLY, and got a good night's sleep for a change.

Now dealing with lots of new company issues this morning...Trying to decide if I'm going to spend too much money on a halloween costume. Oh, and G got a really cool set of hula hoops for her birthday!! What a fun present...

Can you tell that I'm a bit scattered on a Monday morning? Heh.

Idiots on the road...

So on Saturday I'm driving down I-30, going a comfortable 65 miles an hour.
Several motorcycles were entering the freeway. One, in the lane next to me, decided to show off and accelerated rapidly popping a wheelie. He was about 15 feet in front of me, and I saw him pull up his front wheel and go higher, and higher, and then over backwards. His bike bounced into my lane, but I was able to avoid most of it-a few parts bounced off of the side of my Xterra. . The biker himself stayed in his lane and rolled to a stop.
I jumped out of the truck, calling 911, and then I see the biker standing up. One lucky guy to have turfed while going 70 miles an hour...and walk away from it. I'm fine with a little playing while you are behind the wheel, but not when you can cause other people to wreck along with you. I would've felt bad, had the guy bounced under my truck and killing him.
